Grocery DSD Receiver - Policies & Procedures

One thing to remember about being a Grocery DSD Receiving Associate is if you are going to do the job, always follow Walmart Policies and Procedures even when you know a more efficient method exists that still accounts for the merchandise you're receiving. When I accepted the position as DSD Receiving Associate for consumables, I knew very little about the job. Before long, I learned the training I received was deficient in some areas. The Asset Protection (AP) Manager would watch the video from the cameras that were in my area and call my attention to things I was not doing correctly or failed to do. After being a DSD Receiver for some three months, I learned some policies and procedures that I had not been following. For instance, when processing merchandise, the vendor or in some cases the delivery truck driver is not to assist in any way. I was not to converse with him in any friendly manner while processing the merchandise. He is not to be near me nor is he to touch any of the merchandise. The AP Manager informed me of areas where I was failing due to lack of proper training, what he called training issues. For instance, I allowed vendors to stand near me. I allowed them to show me barcodes and to hold boxes open for me to scan and count the number of items. I spoke with the vendors while I processed their merchandise. I also allowed the delivery truck driver to move cases of dairy products that were on pallets so I could see the labels. [A full pallet will have nine stacks of cases with five to six cases in each stack.] I explained to the AP manager that I had driver tip the cases so I could see the labels and ensure I was getting a correct count for the different types of milk. He informed me that per Walmart Policy and Procedure, the delivery truck driver is not to touch any of the cases, he is not to be near me, nor is he to speak to me when I process his delivery. Following Walmart's Policies and Procedures 'to the letter' requires more time and is not always efficient.

Another thing and this relates to the first point is Walmart does not care about vendors. For instance, a certain vendor informed me that he receives commission. When I mentioned he had several claims, he asked if I could hold them for about four days. If he received them four days later, he would get full credit or reimbursement for the claims from the company. Otherwise, he would have two absorb some of the cost. The AP manager informed me that I work for Walmart. Walmart does not care about the vendor's commission. Walmart policy is that I have vendors process their claims the next time I see them and not allow them to process claims at a later time.

Walmart Policies And Procedures Handbook

The last thing I will mention is Walmart Policy calls for the Grocery Receiver to open and visually account for every item in cases that come sealed from the manufacturer. As a Walmart Associate, I am not to assume that sealed box has the correct case count as the stamped label or lettering on the outside of the box indicates.

Once I learned the Walmart's Policies and Procedures for the DSD Receiving Associate and Walmart's attitude toward vendors, I decided being a DSD Grocery Receiver is not what I want to be doing....
